we NEVER use laminated pearl scraps. We ONLY use solid, natural, good-quality, genuine mother of pearl to produce our inlay.
All of the inlay sets that we make here in our shop in Virginia, USA are more detailed and period correct than any other inlay set available. The solid mother of pearl is an average of 0.060" thick, so there is plenty of room to sand if you need without the worry of making the final inlay in your project too thin.
These inlay pieces have all of the details you would expect from us, because we work on and restore the banjos that this inlay was patterned after, and we own over 50 original, pre war Gibson banjo necks and weve taken a great deal of time to carefully digitize them. The original inlay on the pre world war II era banjos contained slight variations from one piece of inlay to the next, but we were able to choose the best of the best examples from many of these iconic old banjos and reproduce it, and quite faithfully. Our cuts are finer and our corners are crisp, and these inlays are always highly detailed and never the off-looking like the sets that you have no doubt seen for sale.
