Mission Profile (source Wikipedia) John Watts Young (September 24, 1930 - January 5, 2018) was an American astronaut, naval officer and aviator, test pilot, and aeronautical engineer. He became the ninth person to walk on the Moon as Commander of the Apollo 16 mission in 1972. Young enjoyed the longest career of any astronaut, becoming the first person to fly six space missions (with seven launches, counting his lunar liftoff) over the course of 42 years of active NASA service. Young was the only spaceman to span NASA’s Gemini, Apollo and shuttle programs, and became the first person to rocket away from Earth six times. Counting his takeoff from the moon in 1972 as commander of Apollo 16, his blastoff tally stood at seven, for decades a world record. He is the only person to have piloted, and been commander of, four different classes of spacecraft: Gemini, the Apollo Command/Service Module, the Apollo Lunar Module, and the Space Shuttle. In 1965, Young flew on the first manned Gemini mission, and commanded another Gemini mission the next year. In 1969 during Apollo 10, he became the first person to fly solo around the Moon. He drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle on the Moons surface during Apollo 16, and is one of only three people to have flown to the Moon twice. He also commanded two Space Shuttle flights, including its first launch in 1981, and served as Chief of the Astronaut Office from 1974 to 1987. Young retired from NASA in 2004. He died on January 5, 2018. Apollo 16, April 16-27, 1972, was Young’s fourth space flight but his first lunar exploration. Young was Spacecraft Commander accompanied by Astronauts Ken Mattingly and Charlie Duke. Young and Duke set up scientific equipment and explored the lunar highlands at Descartes in the Lunar Rover. His NASA career lasted 42 years, longer than any other astronauts, and he was revered among his peers for his dogged dedication to keeping crews safe - and his outspokenness in challenging the space agency’s status quo. Apollo 16 was the tenth manned mission in the United States Apollo space program the fifth and penultimate to land on the moon and the first to land in the lunar highlands. The second of the so-called "J missions," it was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly. Young and Duke spent 71 hours—just under three days—on the lunar surface, during which they conducted three extra-vehicular activities or moonwalks, totalling 20 hours and 14 minutes. The pair drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), the second produced and used on the Moon, 26.7 kilometres (16.6 mi). On the surface, Young and Duke collected 95.8 kilograms (211 lb) of lunar samples for to Earth. His arts significance as the original human interpretative record of mans first off-world experience will only increase in its importance and value over time. Alan Bean, Astronaut and Alexey Leonov, Cosmonaut were the only Space Travellers to become Fine Art Artists. Enjoy the beauty of Alan Beans Moon Art upon your wall from the only Astronaut who walked upon the Moon and then became a fine art Space Artist. Collectors Hints (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023). Collectors Hint 1 - What is a Artist Proof Limited Edition Print? Artist Proofs are a special early subset of the regular limited edition, limited to the first 10% of the print run. An ‘Artist Proof’ is just that, an ‘Artist Proof’ and may or may not be numbered at the discretion of the Artist. They therefore usually sell for 20-50% more than the regular edition print. The Artist Proofs are the first prints pulled off a fresh "stone", the plate which was drawn or etched by the artist to create the Limited Editions. A really serious or specific Collector usually prefers the Artist Proof if one is available, because of the extra quality and value they represent. Collectors
Hint 2 - What is a Giclee Limited Edition Print? A Limited
Edition Print uses the Giclee printing technique for very high quality
and provide Stand Out Impressiveness upon your Wall. The
Term: The term "Giclee print" connotes an elevation in
printmaking technology, which is exactly what it is. Images are
generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality
inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper.
The Giclee printing process provides better colour accuracy than other means of
reproduction. Archival quality ensures that the prints are light-fast and
non-water soluble.
The Quality: The quality of the Giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatine printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries. They are stunningly beautiful in their presentation for that ‘Stand Out Impressiveness’ upon your wall.
