product details:

Self-leveling steel fretting caul for pressing in frets on any stringed instrument . Fret Press Caul - No inserts included

This caul fits in an arbour press or heavy-duty drill press. Using the precisely shaped inserts (sold separately) the frets can be pushed in quickly and effortlessly. milled groove on the bottom keeps each insert properly centered on the fret.

Pressing frets into a guitar fretboard has the advantage over hammering that the entire fret is pressed in one operation, eliminating the possibility that an end will not be seated right, or the hammering could cause the fretwire to deform.

We recommend a very hard, flat base such as steel or a clay paver be used under the fingerboard to eliminate the chance of guillotining the fingerboard.

A small amount of Titebond glue can be applied to the tang of the fret before insertion. This is more of a sealant than an adhesive and it also reduces the chance of chipping during later refretting.
