This cedar chest kit is made in an Amish woodworking shop in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. The entire chest is made of solid, 3/4-inch thick cedar wood.  Each kit comes unassembled and unfinished, the pieces have been cut to basic sizes, planed and sanded. Basic woodworking skills are needed to assemble a kit. Ends need to be sanded flush and some minor panel sizing may be necessary (but not for the dovetail joints). Trim needs to be mitered and cut to length. The tools required to finish a kit are: hammer or nailer, nail countersink punch, glue and nails, wood putty, miter saw, belt or orbital sander, possibly a table saw (if panel sizing is necessary), and bar clamps. The recommended finish is a clear lacquer, nails 1-1/2 in. finish. Each kit comes with hinges and a lock. Instructions are included with each kit.

       This chest is shown assembled but not finished, in the shop. The size of this finished chest is 42L x 18.5W x 19.5H. This kit differs from the flattop chest kit in a number of ways: no handles on the sides, no trim pieces to attach (a profile is cut into the edges of the top and bottom pieces),  battens under the lid, simpler legs, and there is no lock, so we can offer it at a lower price. This kit can usually be shipped in about 5 business days.
